The body of a teenager who fell off his bike into the River Thames has been found a month after he disappeared.

Ben Halsey-Jones, 15, from Wolvercote, Oxford, fell in the river on 21 January while cycling with friends along a towpath in the Port Meadow area.

On Friday, a passer-by spotted a body in the water at Tumbling Bay, off Botley Road, in the city.

Oxfordshire Coroner's Office confirmed on Monday that the body had been identified as that of the teenager.

No date had yet been set for an inquest into his death.

Sorely missed

Ben's brother, Sam, saw him plunge into the water when the wheel of his bicycle slipped and tried to save him.

But Ben was carried off by the current.

After the disappearance, Ben's father Robin, 41, said his son was a "well-liked, sociable lad" who would be sorely missed.

Police divers have been combing the area for weeks in an attempt to find Ben's body.

Oxford City Council has pledged to repair the pot-holed towpath where Ben fell.
