A party at the property broke out into a fight on the street

Booking.com has shut down one user's account after a party at a property listed on its site ended in a street brawl and saw a man charged for allegedly wielding a crossbow.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed a "large-scale" fight broke out on Romney Street in Salford at about 21:30 BST on Tuesday after people spilled out of the property where the gathering was being held.

Roy Leader, 54, of Salford has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, affray and racially aggravated public order offences.

In a statement, Booking.com, which connects travellers to hotels and holiday rentals, said it had blocked the customer's account, adding: "We do not tolerate guest misconduct."

"We are also in touch with our accommodation partner to ensure they have the right house rules in place, such as a no parties policy, to prevent future incidents like this", the accommodation giant added.

Mr Leader has been held in police custody and is set to appear before magistrates later, a GMP spokesman said.

Six teenagers, aged 16 to 18, were also arrested on suspicion of affray after police broke up the brawl.

Some Romney Street residents told the BBC there had been similar incidents on the road in the past, and many had locked their doors in advance.

Detectives were working with Salford Council to understand the use of the property after the "large-scale disturbance", the GMP spokesman said.
