Man hurt in police car collision

A man suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by a police car while crossing the road.

The 23-year-old was walking across Dunnings Bridge Road in Netherton, Merseyside with a friend when the accident happened.

He suffered a broken arm, two broken legs and a slight head injury in the incident on Friday night.

The officer driving the marked Astra vehicle suffered shock. Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses.

Officer unhurt

The police vehicle was not responding to an emergency call when the collision happened at about 2025 GMT.

The man, who is from Bootle, was taken to the Aintree Hospital in Liverpool where his injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "The police officer stopped at the scene and gave first aid treatment and also called for other emergency services.

"The driver of the police vehicle suffered shock as a result of the incident but no other injuries."
