One man living near the scene of the Moss Side attack told the BBC he heard a gun go off at 2100 GMT.
"I came out and just saw everyone run into the park. Obviously it's a concern. I've got children. It's not nice, you know."
Erinma Bell, of the Carisma community group, said lots of work was being done to educate youngsters in the area.

Five hours earlier, four shots were fired at a teenager just over two miles away in Moss Side.
He is not thought to have life-threatening injuries, although the bullet may be lodged in his body.
It is understood he has a bullet entry wound in his back, but there is no exit wound.
Raby Street is close to where 15-year-old Jessie was shot dead, as he rode his mountain bike near Broadfield Park last September.
Despite national appeals for help in finding his killer, no arrests have been made.
