Version 0 of 1.

Marks and Spencer has removed all own-brand houmous products from its stores after tests by a supplier found salmonella in two of them.

A statement issued by the company said it was "conducting a thorough investigation with our supplier to find out how this has happened".

The two affected products are Piquillo Pepper Topped Houmous and Reduced Fat Houmous, both dated use by 15 February.

The firm said the products had been immediately withdrawn from sale.

It had also cleared its shelves of all other unaffected houmous products "as an extreme precaution" while it conducted investigations, and "until we are satisfied our products meet our high standards".

The retailer, which sells only own-brand houmous goods, said the salmonella had been discovered during routine microbiological tests by a supplier.

It had informed the Food Standards Agency and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, it added.

Customers with any Marks and Spencer houmous products could return them to a store to receive a full refund, the company said.
