A caveat to any good news about roles for older women (Demi, Jodie and Nicole: is Hollywood finally ready to recognise complex female characters over 40?, 6 January), the Golden Globes were a depressing line-up of emaciated women with plastic faces. How can we celebrate a 50-year-old actor if she is not allowed to look 50?Helen CluttonBristol

I can’t think of a better place to be incarcerated than Tan Hill Inn (‘It makes you feel like a kid again’: snowed in at Britain’s highest pub, 5 January). I’ve happy memories of taking refreshments there when walking the Pennine Way. I got locked in my local leisure centre on Saturday. It could have been serious – the snack machine was out of order.John HarveyHayfield, High Peak, Derbyshire

A much earlier example of British abstract art (Letters, 5 January) is the west window in Winchester Cathedral. During the English civil war, the original stained glass was shattered by Cromwell’s soldiers who rode their horses into the cathedral firing muskets at the window. When it was reconstructed in the 1660s, the fragments of glass were put together in a breathtaking patchwork of colours and patterns. Philippa ClarkeSouthampton

What about creating a tropical biome, similar to the Eden Project, to house the dinosaur trackways (Biggest trackway of dinosaur footprints found in Oxfordshire quarry, 2 January)? They’re close to the M40 and could provide a wizard attraction. Elaine SteaneOxford

On Monday, I had my first Creme Egg of 2025. Still delicious, and still the same size!Jane GregoryEmsworth, Hampshire
