The two women, aged 38 and 24, died at the scene. The man, in his late 20s, and teenage boy were taken to hospital with serious injuries. They were both in a stable condition, police said. The next of kin of both women had been informed and were being supported by officers. Formal identification would be undertaken in due course, the force added. A large cordon was in place at the scene on Thursday afternoon and a forensics team could be seen entering and walking up the stairs of a block of flats.
Numbered yellow evidence markers and first aid kits were visible on the road and pavement outside, and on the boot of a car parked on the adjoining street.
