Merseyside Police said they were contacted after paramedics found a 73-year-old man dead at a house in Braemar Avenue, Southport, on Sunday night. It followed a concern for welfare report received shortly before midnight, the force said. Police say a 52-year-old man has been charged with murder over the death, and has been remanded in custody to face Liverpool Magistrates Court on Boxing Day. Det Ch Insp Alan Nuttall said: "Although a charge has been made, we continue to appeal for information to establish the full circumstances of what has taken place. "I would ask anyone that was in the vicinity of Braemar Avenue at that time who we haven't already spoken to get in touch with us. "In addition, I also ask those with CCTV or dashcam footage to please check it to see if it may have captured something significant that will help with the investigation." He urged people "not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing".
