Protest arrests at gas terminal | Protest arrests at gas terminal |
(40 minutes later) | |
Seven people have been arrested at the South Hook liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Milford Haven after protesters chained themselves together.
There have been a number of protests at various stages of the 190-mile (306 km) gas pipeline which is being built from Milford Haven to Gloucesteshire.
Campaigners said the latest protest was designed to stop work at the terminal.
Previously, contractor the National Grid has said the pipeline is needed to meet the UK's growing energy need.
But protesters claim the pipeline is damaging the environment and have raised safety concerns.

Last week the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) gave the go-ahead for the second phase of the project which will pass through part of the Brecon Beacons.
In November, work on the first phase was halted by demonstrators who climbed inside the pipe at Trebanos in the Swansea Valley.
One protester at the South Hook terminal on Wednesday said around 20 people were involved and the plan was to stop work again.
A spokesperson for South Hook LNG said initially there was "traffic back up" while police organised an alternative route to the site.
'Chained together' | |
Police had escorted some protesters away from the site, but others still remained and were blocking a road.
The protester said:"They're ( the remaining protesters) currently chained together through arm tubes in what's known as a star formation.
"There's probably about 20, 30 lorries backed up along the road which are uanble to make deliveries."
Six of the protesters were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated trespass, and the seventh on suspicion of consipary to commit criminal damage. |
