Donald Trump has declared victory in the hotly contested race for the White House against Kamala Harris, as multiple polls and media organizations project that the Republican is leading in several battleground states. The Republican himself earlier declared victory in a speech in Florida to a cheering crowd. Harris, who did not address her supporters on election night, has yet to concede.  
The New York Times projection has estimated Trump’s chances of victory at over 95%, adding that he is “very likely” to return to the White House. The newspaper and other US media have declared the former president the presumed winner in the swing states of North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, adding that he is leading in another four Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin. According to a projection from the New York Times, Trump has won four battleground states North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania while leading in Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada. As a result, he is estimated to have won at least 277 electoral college votes compared to 224 for Harris, thus surpassing the required threshold of 270.  
Trump has addressed a jubilant crowd of his supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida. Meanwhile, the Harris campaign has announced that the Democrat will not address her supporters at Howard University. A senior aide, however, told CNN that the candidate is still “very likely” to speak in Washington, DC.   The outcome of the election stands in stark contrast to the 2020 vote, when Trump lost Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin to Joe Biden.  
Harris was a late entrant to the race, securing the Democratic nomination after President Joe Biden ended his campaign in July following a disastrous debate performance against Trump, in which he appeared confused and struggled to finish sentences.
