The GP and hospital campaigner who defeated Labour in Strathkelvin and Bearsden at the last election will contest May's Holyrood polls.

Jean Turner told the BBC's Politics Show that she owed it to voters to stand for re-election.

Ms Turner said that while Stobhill's general hospital had already been saved there was still much to be done to improve the health system.

She won her seat in 2003 with a majority of 1%.

The MSP said: "I'm passionate about the NHS and there's still an awful lot to do.

"I know I got in on the Save Stobhill ticket - and a lot has been achieved at Stobhill - but there's still a lot to be achieved.

"If you look at what's happening at Stobhill it's indicative of what's happening all over the country in the NHS - there has been too much tendency to centralisation and forgetting about the people."
