Hit-and-run man faces amputation

A man who was hit by a car and abandoned with serious injuries in the middle of the road may have to have one or more of his limbs amputated.

Police said he was struck by a silver Ford Mondeo on West End Road in Southampton shortly before midnight on Saturday and then abandoned.

The victim was walking along the road when he was struck.

The occupants of the Mondeo left their car and the scene immediately after the crash. Police appealed for witnesses.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "The occupants of the Ford Mondeo left the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the injured man in the road.

"As a result the man suffered serious injuries, which may result in the amputation of one or more limbs."
