A Spitfire has crashed in a field close to an RAF station in Lincolnshire. A pilot has died after a Spitfire crashed in a field close to an RAF station in Lincolnshire, officials said.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said the crash involved a "single-occupant aircraft". No details of any casualties have been given. The iconic aircraft belonged to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at nearby RAF Coningsby, the RAF said.
It added a "comprehensive investigation" will be completed and it will not speculate on the cause of the crash.
The RAF statement reads: "It is with great sadness that we must confirm the death of an RAF pilot in a tragic accident near RAF Coningsby today.
"The pilot's family have been informed and we ask that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."
Earlier, Lincolnshire Police said the aircraft came down in a field off Langrick Road, which runs alongside the perimeter of the RAF station.

The aircraft came down in a field off Langrick Road, which runs alongside the perimeter of the RAF station.
An RAF spokesperson said: "We are working with the emergency services and supporting those involved. An update will be provided in due course."
BBC Look North's Jake Zuckerman said: "The aircraft is belly down, with no sign of its landing gear. It's very close to a bungalow."
