Two of Nigeria’s biggest stars in music Wizkid and Davido set social media platform X alight on Monday after throwing shade at each other. Wizkid and Davido, two of Nigeria's biggest musicians, have captivated social media users across the nation with a war of words.
The two singers with millions of fans across the world are considered rivals as many Nigerian music lovers classify themselves as either "Team Wizkid" or "Team Davido". The clash erupted after fans begged Wizkid to drop them a new song on X. He responded by posting a controversial video of Davido with the caption “beg me like this, send video”. Months ago a controversial video of someone who looks like Davido went viral where he was seen begging someone for a favour and the singer became a subject of trolls. He responded to the requests by posting a video, which had previously been circulated widely, of a man on his knees, begging an unknown person for a favour.
Davido, 31, responded by saying he is not going to waste his time and efforts on someone whose career was resurrected a few years ago just to die again as a reply to Wizkid's post. Wizkid told his fans that if they begged him like the man in the clip, he would drop his new song.
The war of words has attracted a lot of attention on social media and blogs with the discussion spilling onto Nigerian streets. Previously, social media users suggested the subject of the video in question is Davido, but the 31-year-old star has not commented on the rumours.
Fans of both singers are still having a field day defending their idols as the discussion lingers. On Monday night, Davido responded to Wizkid's taunt by saying he refuses to waste his "clout" on "someone whose career was resurrected a few years ago just to die again".
Popular music channel Hip Tv is currently running a poll on X on which of the stars is currently winning the battle. As well as drawing attention on social media, the clash has sparked debate on blogs and between fans interacting offline.
