Version 0 of 1.

A man who handed himself into the police five years after the Bradford riots has been jailed for 27 months.

Kabir Hussain, 26, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court after admitting he threw missiles at the police on three occasions on the night of 7 July 2001.

Hussain fled the UK after the riots to avoid an arranged marriage and did not know he was wanted until August 2006.

His conviction means only Mohammed Ayub Sheikh, 32, of Bradford, is still wanted in connection with the rioting.

Peter Mann, Area Crown Prosecutor at Bradford, said: "The sentence imposed by the court today demonstrates that aggressive behaviour directed towards the police will not be tolerated.

"It also shows that sentences will be commensurate with offences, even where a substantial period of time has elapsed between the offence and the prosecution."

The disturbances in Bradford led to about 300 people, including 120 police officers, being injured and caused damage estimated at £27m.
