A young man in his teens has died following a road accident in a County Down town.

Police said they believe the man was struck by a vehicle as he was walking on West Street in Newtownards shortly before 2100 GMt on Saturday.

A PSNI spokesperson has asked for anyone with information about the accident to contact them.

A total of eight people have died on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year.
