Man hit by passenger train dies

A man has been killed after being struck by a train near Swansea, British Transport Police has said.

The man, who has not been named, was at Mill Road Bridge, about half a mile from Gowerton station, when he was struck by the train at 1610 GMT.

The incident involved the 1550 GMT Swansea to Pembroke Dock Arriva Trains Wales service, which was carrying around 70 passengers.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police said the train was travelling at around 65mph at the time the man was struck.

The incident caused delays of up to 45 minutes for passengers travelling on trains between Llanelli and Swansea.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and transport police said inquiries are ongoing to identify the dead man.
