Man charged over two fire deaths Man is charged over fire killings
(about 4 hours later)
A 57-year-old man is to appear in court on charges connected to an arson attack which killed a County Armagh couple last November, police have said. The father of four men who were badly burned on the same night as an arson attack in County Armagh, has appeared in court.
Thomas O'Hare, 33, and Lisa McClatchey, 21, were doused in petrol and set on fire at their home in Tassagh. They died of their injuries in hospital. The fire, near Tassagh, led to the deaths of Thomas O'Hare, 33, and his 21-year-old partner Lisa McClatchey.
The man who is to appear in court was arrested in Armagh on Monday. Colum Smith, 57, is alleged to have taken people he knew or believed were guilty of attempted murder out of Northern Ireland by car.
He is to appear at Newry Magistrates Court on two charges of assisting offenders. He made no response when the charges were read out in court.
The charged relate to the night the attack happened. Mr O'Hare and Ms McClatchey both died in hospital of their injuries.
Mr Smith, of Mourneview, Mowham in County Armagh, is also accused of taking a car to a scrapyard near Armagh the day after the fire and arranging to have it destroyed.
A detective told the court that the accused had made no reply when he was charged but he said he believed he could connect him with the charges.
Mr Smith was remanded in custody to appear again at Armagh court later this month.
