Boy dies in stair lift accident

A six-year-old boy has died after an accident involving a stair lift at a house in Telford, Shropshire.

Oliver Mapp sustained head injuries after becoming caught in the device as it was in use at a house in the Oakengates area, said police.

The boy, from Morecambe, Lancashire, was visiting relatives when the accident happened on Sunday afternoon.

A police spokesman said the boy's family were in deep shock at the loss of a "loving son".

The boy was taken to hospital after ambulance crews were called to the house, but he died later.

A post-mortem investigation has yet to be held and a police family liaison officer has been appointed to help.

"The family have lost a loving son and ask that at this time they are left to grieve," the liaison officer said.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police added: "Officers are trying to establish the exact circumstances which led to this tragic accident."
