Two children found dead by police

Detectives have launched a murder inquiry after discovering the bodies of two children in east London.

The youngsters, a 10-year-old boy and three-year-old girl, were found by the Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Police were called at around 0925 GMT on Saturday to an address in Pembury Close, Hackney, where the children were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested there and is in custody at an east London police station.

Next of kin

Officers said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.

Police also said they believe that they knew the identity of the victims but will inform the next of kin before releasing further details.

They are also awaiting formal identification.

Post mortem examinations will be carried out on the two children.
