Student nurses have been getting a better understanding of how assistance dogs can support people with a range of conditions.

An event at Birmingham City University taught students from its School of Nursing and Midwifery how to observe and interact with such dogs in a variety of clinical scenarios.

They also got an insight into how the animals are trained to do their work, including the detection of potentially dangerous situations.
