Our reporters provided live updates and analysis on Monday night during the first and only debate between Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and his challenger in his re-election bid, Charlie Crist. The debate between Mr. DeSantis, a Republican, and Mr. Crist, a Democrat, was held in Fort Pierce, Fla., on the same day that in-person early voting got underway in some of the state’s biggest counties.

The debate was initially scheduled for Oct. 12 but was postponed because of Hurricane Ian, a Category 4 storm that struck Southwest Florida on Sept. 28. Public opinion polls have consistently showed Mr. DeSantis leading the race.
