John Jones, 22, from Pontypool, south Wales, was celebrating a friend's birthday when he got involved in a dispute at Kaos, Southampton, in 2008. He suffered a broken neck when doorman Andrew Lee, 31, of Alcantara Crescent, Southampton, restrained him. Lee was convicted at Southampton Crown Court of causing grievous bodily harm and sentenced on Friday. Mr Jones had been studying sports journalism at Solent University in Southampton. Police said Mr Jones was involved in a "verbal dispute", close to the women's toilets in Kaos, "when a member of door staff intervened" on 26 February, 2008. |
