Version 0 of 1.

A family of five were among 10 people rescued by firefighters from a blazing tenement block.

The residents were trapped after flames engulfed the entrance hall of the four-storey property in Paisley, Renfrewshire, at 2220 GMT on Monday.

The family were spotted waving frantically from their first floor flat in Dunn Street.

They had broken a window to allow smoke to escape and eventually climbed down a ladder put up by the fire service.

Five other people, including an elderly resident who had to be carried by firefighters, were also escorted from the other floors of the building.

All those rescued were checked over for smoke inhalation and a number were treated for minor cuts from broken glass.

None were believed to have been seriously hurt.

It is thought that the fire, which took just over an hour to put out, started on the ground floor.

In all, 40 firefighters attended the incident.
