A football fan has claimed he was insulted by Premiership player Lee Hendrie during a match at Old Trafford.

The Aston Villa midfielder is alleged to have made the comments when the team met Manchester United on 13 January.

It is claimed he became involved in an argument with United fans and made abusive gestures to a man in the disabled fans' area.

Greater Manchester Police said they were investigating the allegations, which Hendrie denies.

Police said they had not interviewed the 29-year-old player.

A spokeswoman said: "Police are continuing to investigate reports of abusive comments and gestures at the Manchester United versus Aston Villa match at Old Trafford on Saturday, January 13.

"The reports were made shortly before 7.10pm that night and investigations into the incident are ongoing."

A spokesman for Aston Villa Football Club said: "We have spoken to Lee about the allegations and he vehemently denies them."
