Teen death 'ordered from prison'

A teenager was shot dead in Sheffield on the orders of a gang leader from his prison cell, a court has heard.

Tarek Chaiboub, 17, died after he was shot in Burngreave in July 2008. He had survived a knife attack days earlier.

Michael Chattoo, 21, Nigel Ramsey, 23, Denzil Ramsey, 20, and a boy of 17 deny murder. Javan Galloway, 20, Mr Chattoo and Nigel Ramsey deny attempted murder.

Nigel Ramsey ordered both attacks on a smuggled mobile phone from inside prison, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

The shooting happened as part of a feud between members of the city's S3 gang, named after the postcode of the districts of Burngreave and Pitsmoor in Sheffield.

The feud stemmed from the murder of gang member Brett Blake a month earlier, the court heard.

The jury was told that Mr Chattoo and Mr Galloway were responsible for the knife attack on Tarek three days before his death.

It is alleged that the teenager's killing and the previous attack were based on the orders from prison of Nigel Ramsey, who was also known as the "General", the jury was told.

Nigel Ramsey used a mobile phone smuggled in to HMP Wolds to give the orders from his jail cell, the court heard.

Tarek died after being shot in the back with a sawn-off shotgun outside Frenchie's barber shop in Spital Street.

The prosecution says Mr Chattoo, Denzil Ramsey and the 17-year-old youth, were responsible for the shooting.
