Miss Ward received a guard of honour for her funeral service at All Saints Church, in Oakham. Four police motorcyclists escorted the cortege carrying Miss Ward's coffin to Oakham's All Saints Church.
Leicestershire Chief Constable Matt Baggott gave a reading during the ceremony, which was followed by a private cremation service. Colleagues carried the casket, draped with the Leicestershire Police flag, into the church while members of her shift provided the guard of honour.
Speaking after Miss Ward's death, the police chief said: "Although she was young in service - she joined the constabulary only 18 months ago - Melissa had enjoyed a successful career and was greatly respected by her colleagues. 'Caring support'
"She had many friends in the force and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her, as well as the wider police family." About 150 people attended the service, conducted by vicar of Oakham Rev Lee Francis-Dehuani.
Rutland and North Leicestershire coroner Trevor Kirkman has opened and adjourned inquests into both deaths. In a message included on the order of service, Miss Ward's family said: "Thank you for coming today to share our thanksgiving for Melissa's life.
"Your cards, messages of support and sympathy have been invaluable and we have been touched by the caring support of Leicestershire Police.
"Melissa was a loving and compassionate person who won the hearts of everyone she met and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and colleagues."
