Climber dies after mountain fall

Police said the incident happened at about 1450 BST on Friday as a party of four scaled the 3,064 ft munro Am Basteir in the Cuillin Hills. Skye Mountain Rescue Team and the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter took part in the attempted rescue operation. The man was taken to Broadford Hospital on the island but was declared dead a short time later. A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said further details of the casualty would not be released. |
