The bodies of two British hostages who died in captivity in Iraq have returned to the UK, the Foreign Office has said.
Security guards Jason Swindlehurst, from Skelmersdale, Lancashire, and Jason Creswell, from Glasgow, were flown to RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.
Their remains were handed over to Iraqi authorities a week ago, two years after they were seized in Baghdad.
Two other security guards and the IT consultant they were protecting, Peter Moore, are still thought to be captive. | Two other security guards and the IT consultant they were protecting, Peter Moore, are still thought to be captive. |
A Foreign Office (FCO) spokesman said on Friday: "The bodies of Jason Swindlehurst and Jason Creswell were repatriated earlier today.
"Family members were present as the flight arrived. Foreign Office staff accompanied them."
The spokesman said FCO officials remained in close contact with all the families and were doing everything possible to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
The Oxfordshire Coroner will open and adjourn inquests into the deaths before releasing the men's bodies to their families, the spokesman added.
Mr Moore had been working for American management consultancy Bearingpoint when he was kidnapped, while the other men were contractors employed to guard him.
They were captured in May 2007 at Baghdad's Ministry of Finance by a group of about 40 men disguised as Iraqi policemen. |
