A 14-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car on the M8 in West Lothian.

The teenager was hit by the car on the westbound carriageway at Livingston just before midnight.

In a separate accident in West Lothian, a man died after a car carrying six people overturned on Tippethill Road at Armadale at about 2315 GMT on Saturday.

Police said neither of the victims would be named until relatives had been informed.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police appealed for witnesses to the accident on the M8.

Witness appeal

He said the 14-year-old was found to be dead at the scene. The two occupants of the car were not injured.

The M8 was closed to traffic between junctions two and three westbound and there was no access to the motorway from the M9.

In the other incident, police said the driver of the red Nissan Micra car appeared to lose control of the car, causing it to overturn.

One person died and the five other occupants were being treated in hospital.

The road was closed for five hours.
