Bush's special envoy to step down

US President George Bush's special envoy to Northern Ireland is to step down at the end of the month.

Mitchell Reiss has held the position since the beginning of 2004.

He is being replaced by Paula Dobriansky, currently Under Secretary of State for Domestic and Global Affairs at the US State Department.

Mr Reiss is expected to make a pre-planned visit to Ireland later this month where he will be accompanied by his successor Ms Dobriansky.
