A 46-year-old man who was convicted of raping two girls and a boy has been jailed for nine years at the High Court in Glasgow.

Gordon Fernie, from Gretna, committed the offences at various addresses in Glasgow between 1976 and 2001.

The girls were aged two and four years old when the abuse began - the boy was aged seven.

Lord Turnbull placed Fernie on the sex offenders' register and recommended he be banned from working with children.

At a previous court appearance, Fernie was convicted of repeatedly raping a girl over an eight-year period.

He was also found guilty of raping another girl on various occasions when she was aged between two and 10.

Fernie forced the girls, who are now aged 25 and 18, to watch pornographic films.

'Abusive behaviour'

The jury also convicted him of raping a young boy in the 1970's.

His victim was just seven when Fernie, who was a teenager, began abusing him.

Jailing Fernie Lord Turnbull told him: "This sexual abuse is one of the most serious and worst cases of its type.

"I had the benefit of hearing and seeing your victims give evidence about your abusive behaviour.

"Their evidence was powerful and compelling and I was entirely convinced they were utterly truthful in describing what happened to them."
