An entire village is under suspicion in the Spanish Pyrenees over the death of the local mayor, shot dead a week ago.

Police are taking DNA samples and questioning villagers over the killing of Miguel Grima, who was mayor of Fago.

He was ambushed while driving home late last Friday. Media reports say he was shot in the chest with a shotgun and his body was dumped on a mountainside.

He had received death threats in the past, reports say. The isolated village in the Huesca area has 31 inhabitants.

His car was found by hunters some 12km (eight miles) from the crime scene.

A Spanish journalist who has followed the case, Miguel Murado, told the BBC's Europe Today programme that the mayor had been "controversial", refusing some people residence and building permits in the village.
