(31 minutes later) | |
A father who towed his son on a sledge behind his car on a road has been banned from driving for a year.
Simon Lewington, 41, of Market Harborough, in Leicestershire, was also ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid work after admitting the stunt in February.
Lewington pleaded guilty at Market Harborough Magistrates' Court to dangerous driving.
He told officers it had been a "wonderful opportunity" for his to be towed through the town in the snow.
Lewington, a carpenter, was caught after police spotted his silver 4x4, with the child in tow, travelling past their station in the town in February.
He subsequently admitted driving dangerously.
Sentencing him to a 12-month community order and handing him a driving ban, chairwoman of the bench Eunice Loney said: "You certainly have given you and your family a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but not one you will want to repeat.
"Taking into account your previous good character, your remorse, your full co-operation and admissions, in light of this we do not consider that this warrants a custodial sentence." |
