German-born Peter Wallner, 33, had not been seen since moving out of Hamilton Avenue in Cobham, Surrey, where the woman's body was found on Saturday. Surrey Police said Mr Wallner was in Malta when he realised officers wanted to speak to him. A spokesperson for the force said he was making arrangements to voluntarily return to the UK as soon as possible. He contacted Surrey Police on Tuesday while staying with his 23-year-old partner Lilia Fenech and her family. 'Keen to help' Det Ch Insp Maria Woodall said: "We appreciate the assistance of the media and the public in helping us locate Mr Wallner. "He has now made contact with us and is keen to return to the UK to help us in our investigation." The body - of an unidentified white woman in her 30s - is thought to have been in the bin for three weeks before it was found. Dustmen had refused to empty it and told council bosses the container was too heavy to lift. Elmbridge council said it contacted the owner of the relevant house in Cobham after binmen reported the issue. She told police on Saturday there was a foot sticking up in the bin. Mr Wallner and Ms Fenech rented the property in Hamilton Avenue until about three weeks before the body was found. Efforts are still being made to establish the identity of the dead woman. A post-mortem examination revealed she suffered a serious head injury, but it did not establish a cause of death. |
