At least 60 people are feared drowned after their boat capsized in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh.

Police say more than 80 people were on board the vessel, most of them pilgrims on their way to a religious festival.

Police say 18 people, three of them crew, survived the accident on the Krishna river in Mahbubnagar district, about 175km (108 miles) from Hyderabad.

Only 10 bodies have been found so far.Police say the boat, which had a capacity of only 35, was overcrowded.

Authorities said army divers were being sent in to help with rescue operations, but the chance of finding survivors of the accident, which happened on Thursday afternoon, are slim.

"The chances of survival after 24 hours are very low," police official K Srinivas Reddy told the Associated Press news agency.
