"It is not surprising that other cases are beginning to emerge and I would again urge people not to be alarmed," said Mr McGimpsey. Last week, an NI pupil at Eton College in England contracted the virus following an outbreak at the prestigious boys' school.
"I am pleased to hear that this man is recovering well." This first 'home grown' case brings to seven the total number of people from Northern Ireland who have swine flu.
The PHA said the man has mild flu symptoms and is being treated at home. The man has mild flu symptoms and is being treated at home, according to the Public Health Agency (PHA).
On Monday two cases, a man and woman who had returned separately from the USA, were confirmed. "This case was picked up through our follow-up of a previous case here and we will now follow-up anyone who was in close contact with this person after they developed the flu," said Dr Carolyn Harper of the PHA.
"This is the standard procedure in this type of case. People should not be alarmed by this further case and we should expect to see more over the next few days and weeks.
'Good systems'
"That has been the pattern in other countries and we are planning for a similar picture here.
"We have good systems in place though to respond to any cases that appear."
