The Socialist Labour Party has taken 1.1% of the vote in the Euro elections to finish 11th - just ahead of the rival union-focused party No2EU.

The SLP, which wants withdrawal from the European Union, got 173,115 votes.

The party, led by ex-miners' leader Arthur Scargill, believes Britain should instead develop links with Asia, Africa and Latin America.

It also argues EU directives on privatisation are destroying Britain's health, education and postal services.
