SDLP MLA Declan O'Loan said: "We could quite easily be taking about a murder inquiry, the ramifications of a house being attacked by a petrol-bomb is quite frightening.
"This is a grossly irresponsible attack on a private house which could have lead to serious injury or death.
"I would encourage the community of Regent's Park to co-operate fully with the police and anyone who knows anything about this terrible attack has a duty to provide information to the police to take dangerous people such as these off the streets."
