Version 0 of 1.

The total number of swine flu cases in the UK is nearing 500 after another 27 cases were confirmed on Friday.

All of the new patients confirmed with the virus live in England, taking the UK total to 486.

Fourteen of the new cases were in London and five were in the South East, while five people in the Glasgow area remain in hospital.

They include a 44-year-old woman from Renfrewshire who was admitted on Thursday and is in intensive care.

The woman is in the high-dependency unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

There are three other people with the virus in intensive care in that hospital, although a Glasgow man has improved slightly and been moved into high dependency care.

The virus is now in 66 countries, with the majority of cases - including the 117 fatal ones - in Mexico and the US.

The World Health Organization warned it was "getting closer" to declaring a global outbreak.
