The attack happened at a house in the Cliftonville area on Wednesday. A man entered the property and stole a number of items. Then a sexual assault involving a child of school age took place in a bedroom. Police are looking for clues to try to track down the attacker and have appealed for information. Parents in the area are said to be very anxious. "I know it's the good weather and the summer nights, but my windows will be locked at night," said one woman. "My child sleeps in a room on her own and you would never forgive yourself if something like that happened." In a statement, the police said: "Because of the young age of the victim, officers are gathering information in the most sensitive way possible. "If you see someone acting suspiciously, or have any concerns about strangers near your home or talking to your children, contact police immediately. "I would also ask everyone to be take sensible steps in relation to home security. Make sure all windows and doors are locked at night, and do not let any unexpected or suspicious callers into your home." Anyone with any information should contact the police on 0845 600 8000.
