Child 'assaulted' during burglary

Police were called to the house in the Cliftonville area of the city on Wednesday night. A man entered the property and stole a number of items. During the burglary, a sexual assault took place in a bedroom. "Because of the young age of the victim, officers are gathering information in the most sensitive way possible," a police spokesman said. "If you see someone acting suspiciously, or have any concerns about strangers near your home or talking to your children, contact police immediately. "I would also ask everyone to be take sensible steps in relation to home security. Make sure all windows and doors are locked at night, and do not let any unexpected or suspicious callers into your home." Anyone with any information should contact the police on 0845 600 8000.
