The statue was created by North Carolina sculptor Chas Fagan, and will stand in the Capitol's rotunda. Mr Reagan was US president from 1981 until 1988 and remains a popular political figure in America, particularly among conservatives. He died in 2004 at the age of 93, after suffering for many years from Alzheimer's disease. The statue is part of the National Statuary Hall Collection, which is spread throughout the US Capitol building. Each US state picks two historical figures to honour with a statue in the collection. Mr Reagan's statue was donated by California, the state which he governed for eight years before entering the White House. |
