New case critical with swine flu | |

A fourth person in Scotland is in a critical condition in hospital with swine flu, it has emerged. | |
Alex Salmond announced the new case during First Minister's Questions and said the number of people with the virus in Scotland had increased to 88. | |
A 45-year-old man from Paisley and a 38-year-old woman from Glasgow are also in a critical condition at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Renfrewshire. | |
Another man, aged 37, is also in intensive care in a Glasgow hospital. | |
"We now have four cases in Scotland in intensive care," Mr Salmond said. | |
"That indicates that there can be no complacency on the part of anyone because while in most cases we are seeing a relatively mild impact of flu there are always people who, for a variety of reasons, prove more susceptible to the virus." | |

On Tuesday, the 45-year-old man from Paisley was confirmed as the first person in the UK to become critically ill solely because of swine flu. | |
The 38-year-old woman and 37-year-old man are both known to have underlying health reasons. | |
It is not yet known if the new critical case also has underlying health problems. | |
Earlier, ministers confirmed that a primary school and private nursery in Argyll and Bute had been closed in the latest efforts to control the spread of swine flu. | |
Toward School, near Dunoon, which has 25 pupils, was closed after a primary six pupil tested positive for the virus. | |
The Appletree private nursery school in Rothesay was also been closed and its 40 pupils treated with antiviral drugs. |
