A man suffered severe head injuries when he fell from a tree in Bristol while trying to rescue his son.

The man, thought to be in his 30s, fell 25ft (7.62m) and was found wedged unconscious in the lower branches of the tree at the park in Ham Green.

Fire crews were called to the incident at about 1730 BST on Monday and believed the man was trying to help his son after he got stuck up the tree.

The man remains in a life-threatening condition in Frenchay Hospital.

The boy, believed to be primary school age, managed to get down from the tree and call for assistance.

A spokeswoman for Avon and Fire Rescue Service, said: "Firefighters climbed up to the man and managed to lower him to the ground using ropes.

"Firefighters and paramedics worked together to try and resuscitate the man. He was then flown to hospital by air ambulance where his injuries are thought to be life-threatening."
