Further swine flu case confirmed

There are now 17 confirmed cases in Scotland of the virus, also known as swine flu, and eight probable cases. The newly-confirmed case is a traveller from the USA who was a known probable case in Edinburgh. He was showing symptons on the flight. The contacts from the flight have been followed up. He has one close contact - his wife - who is well. Ms Sturgeon said: "This is clearly a difficult time for this man and his wife. "However, I would once again stress that the risk to the general public remains low. "We must also remain vigilant as we continue to limit the spread of the virus and I would encourage people to continue to adopt simple hygiene precautions." There are three new probable cases under investigation. These are non-travel related cases, one from Lothian and two from Highland NHS boards. The other probable cases are all in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. |
