(about 9 hours later)
Police are appealing for witnesses after a three-car crash in which a 10-year-old girl died. Tributes have been paid to a "popular little girl" who was killed when the car she was travelling in crashed in a three-vehicle collision.
The crash happened on Morfa Bychan Road, Porthmadog in Gwynedd at about 1650 BST on Friday. Chloe Anne Bunney from Felinheli, died after the incident at Morfa Bychan Road, Porthmadog in Gwynedd at about 1650 BST on Friday.
The girl, who lived locally, was flown to hospital at Bangor by air ambulance but was pronounced dead. A petition to improve the safety of the road had been started a month before Chloe died, it has emerged.
Officers closed the road while investigations took place and now want anyone who was travelling on the road at the time to get in touch. Her death has been described as "a major shock to the village".
The crash involved three vehicles - a Ford, a VW Golf and an Audi. Councillor Sian Gwenllian said: "It's a major shock, there's a quiet atmosphere in the village today, there is sadness around us.

"I think everyone has been touched by this tragedy.
"She was a very popular little girl, very bouncy, well liked by all the other children.
"She had lots of friends. She liked dancing, she liked taking part in all the activities at the school and was to be seen around the village quite a bit as well.
"It's a very sad day and our deepest sympathies go to the family of course, especially her mother, and I hope we can support her as best we can in these tragic circumstances."
Meanwhile, as police continued their investigation into the circumstances of the collision, councillor Selwyn Griffiths said that concern over the safety of the road where the crash happened had already been raised by local people.
Cllr Selwyn Griffiths said there were worries about the road
"This stretch of road, especially during the summer, is very very busy as it leads down to Black Rock sands where hundreds and thousands of people go in the summer," he said.
"This time of year, on a day like this, it is very, very busy here.
"We've got a lot of problems with the road itself, there is a lot of speeding here.
"We are very worried about speeding. A few hundred yards down the road, there have been numerous accidents here over the past few months.
"The Friends of Morfa Bychan had started off a petition about a month ago asking Gwynedd council to look at two things.
"One, the safety of pedestrians on the road and naturally the safety of drivers as well. Something has to be done to eliminate all these problems," he said.
