A businessman involved in a collision which killed a nine-year-old boy has admitted intending to pervert the course of justice by repairing his car. David James Lunn, 61, appeared from custody at Mold Crown Court following the fatal accident in Wrexham Road, Overton, on 19 March. Robbie Gaunt died of his injuries after being struck by two vehicles. Judge John Rogers QC adjourned the case for sentence until 19 June so that a pre-sentence report can be prepared. Lunn, of Moorland Avenue in Queens Park, Wrexham, admitted that between the accident and 23 March he carried out repairs to his car - including buying a new bonnet and burning the car's bumper - to pervert the course of justice. He also admitted two offences of causing death when having no insurance and driving in breach of his licence at the time of the incident. Lunn is not charged with causing the boy's death by the manner of his driving, but by being involved in a fatal accident when his Jaguar was not insured and when he was not driving in accordance with a driving licence. The court heard he then destroyed evidence relevant to the police investigation of Robbie's death. The judge told Lunn, who was remanded in custody, that his guilty pleas would help him considerably when it came to sentence. Robbie died at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, after he was initially taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The incident happened on the A539 between Erbistock and the outskirts of Wrexham. |
