Girl sent card to accused killer

A teenage girl accused of luring a boy to his death in a "honey trap" sent a Valentine's Day card to one of his alleged killers, a court has heard.

The girl sent the card after she and co-defendant Danny McLean had been arrested for the murder of 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend, a jury was told.

Shakilus was killed by a gang in Thornton Heath, south London, in July last year, the Old Bailey has heard.

The girl, 16, who cannot be named, and six males deny murder.

On Wednesday the girl admitted luring Shakilus into a trap but said she thought he was only going to be beaten up.

Manipulative liar

The jury was told the girl agreed to set up Shakilus after Mr McLean discovered she was "two timing" him with the 16-year-old.

Under cross examination by Louise McCullough, counsel for Mr McLean, the girl said she no longer loved him.

But she admitted since they were both arrested she had sent him letters, a birthday card and a Valentine's Day card.

The girl who was 15 at the time Shakilus was stabbed, confirmed she had a sexual relationship with Mr McLean who is 18, but said she had never had sex with Shakilus or even kissed him.

Later, under cross-examination by Brian Altman QC, for the prosecution, she admitted that she was "at times" manipulative and a liar.

But she insisted that she had not told any lies in the witness box.
