Dai Roberts, of North Wales Fire Service, said when they arrived they were told there were believed to be people inside. The first-floor flat, above The Coffee Shop in the centre of the village, was cordoned off as the investigation continued.
"Tragically, what we located and recovered turned out to be the bodies of two boys," said Mr Roberts. The blaze left one room "extremely damaged" by fire, while other rooms suffered smoke damage, North Wales Police said.
'Dreadful' A force spokesman said: "A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fire at a flat in the Llanfaethlu near Holyhead, Anglesey.
He added: "It's very tragic for our crews and tragic in itself to lose life in a fire. The loss of life of two boys in a fire is 100 times worse." "We are not releasing any further information about this person's identity."
